A chain of sushi joints with a Danish & – get this – female chef at the helm doesn’t sound like somewhere foodie snobs would frequent, but they’d be missing out. Feng Sushi, a low-key group
including a delivery-only unit at Billingsgate Market, is respectful of the seasons & sustainability without being dogmatic. Yes, you can have an order of ‘X-ray’ salad with pomegranates &
avocado with your Loch Duart salmon sashimi, or pine nut & soba salad with your Japanese ‘fish & chips’. And if you fancy your chirashi sushi on brown rice, that’s not a problem.
Everything’s available to go, with plenty of sushi & sashimi boxes to choose from – plus alcoholic support from Japanese beer & saké. Desserts are typically restrained – black sesame ice
cream, perhaps, or chocolate mochi.
A beautiful blue flower painted wall grabs the attention at Feng Sushi. Along with this, there are two fish tanks that contribute to the calming atmosphere. High wooden stools, tables and chairs make up the small dining area. There is some outdoor seating as well. Additional stools are placed by the bar area.A cold day required some hearty hot food. Feng Sushi primarily does sushi so the hot dishes are fairly limited to a few soups, udon noodle soups, tempura and curries.
