Beneath the famous Everyman Theatre, this bistro was founded nearly 40 years ago and continues to set the standard for good food on a modest budget. Fresh, seasonal ingredients, a menu that changes twice daily, and a down-to-earth style of cooking, draw an appreciative crowd. Middle Eastern spiced lamb with chick peas and apricots is a favourite, closely followed by beef in ale with mushrooms. Quiches, pizzas and salads are also a strong point. There’s a wide selection of vegetarian and gluten-free dishes too, as well as cask cider, Belgian beers, and great cakes and pastries, especially the lemon syrup cake.
