Pan-Asian firecracker Barn Asia was recently saved from extinction thanks to a benevolent regular who stepped in and re-branded the place as Electric East. Not much has changed in the kitchen,
which still absorbs influences from Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Korea and beyond for a mix of tapas plates and bigger dishes ranging from white bean patties with spinach raita or tempura king
prawns with vindaloo mayo and chilli jam to crispy pork belly with pork cheek and tamarind samosa or roast lamb rump with cumin rösti and spiced black vinegar reduction. Thai curries, ‘shaking
beef’, bulgogi BBQs and westernised desserts such as lemon tart with meringue ice cream complete the package. Vietnamese furnishings and ethnic artwork set the scene in the luxurious lounge and
dining room, while floor-to-ceiling windows and a big alfresco space provide great views over Waterloo Square.
