Out of the same stable as The Redchurch and Cargo, this new watering hole plies its trade in a former Haggerston repair shop. Inside, the sensibly restrained decor harks
back to Sergeant Pepper, and lonely hearts will soon make friends here: the room is a long, narrow squeeze with plush plum booths to the rear. There’s wine in the fridge, but it’s not much to write
home about – so best concentrate on the cocktails: classics such as clover club line up alongside some new names including fisticuffs (a toddy made from Jameson Irish whiskey, Laphroaig and Old
Krupnik honey liqueur). To eat, fancy filled rolls range from Asian chicken with hoisin and oyster sauce to goats’ cheese and mushrooms. The place styles itself as a coffee shop and bar, but sadly,
the espresso is as bitter a cup as we’ve tasted recently.
