Square Meal Review of Cucina Asellina at ME London Hotel ?

The smart London offshoot of New York’s Ristorante Asellina boasts an eye-catching modern design, with white leather, copper lamps, glossy polished concrete floors and a striking central wine wall. The look may be Milan Fashion Week, but the cooking is an altogether more rustic affair with platters of well-sourced meats and cheese (think venison bresaola and smoked scamorza) alongside hearty flavoured pastas and antipasti. A highlight is the signature menu of flatbreads from a wood-fired oven, with toppings such as suckling pig and fennel preserve or prosciutto with black truffle, fontina and rocket. Fish and meat options – the likes of tender beef short rib on a bed of polenta with Barolo sauce – are also worth a look, and liquid back-up is provided by an Italian-focused wine list, aperitivo-style cocktails (Negronis, Aperol Spritz) and native beers. “Great service” plus a wallet-friendly set menu (£14/£18 for two/three courses) are further draws.

  1. When it came to celebrating my little sister’s engagement recently, I knew Cucina Asellina at the ME London hotel would be right up her street. The latest in restaurant launches from the One Group, and rather aptly, the sister restaurant of Asselina in New York. After recently visiting the group’s other restaurants, Heliot at the Hippodrome and STK, also at ME, I knew we’d be onto a good thing, and more importantly, her kind of thing...

Over the Hype :: Cucina Asellina

Modelled after the same restaurant in New York City, Cucina Aselina is now part of a luxuriously edgy five star establishment in Aldwych.

Housed in the ME hotel, the ethos to the restaurant is evidently a portrait of contemporary Italy and our guess was that the clientele they catered to were just as savvy. Without being overtly fine dining-esque or old fashioned, a nod to an understated elegance still remain from the service right down to the hallmark stone ovens they use to prepare home made pizzas and breads...

  1. It was Saturday night and we were invited to a birthday party at Radio Bar at the ME London Hotel.

Located in the middle of The Strand, the ME London hotel is perfectly positioned near Covent Garden and Trafalgar square within easy reach of theatres, shopping areas and cool night life. The innovative design of the hotel really hits you as you walk and there is nothing quite like it in London...

  1. On the ground floor of the luxurious ME London hotel in london, is this recently tweaked modern and relaxed Italian. I have not tasted the previous menu, but this tapas style makeover is definitely my style of dining.

The interior is opulent but don’t let that put you off. The style of service is warm and welcoming. The food is full of italian favourites at a reasonable price. The dishes are bold and big, in little portions to share. And it works...

  1. By some weird coincidence we revisited the revamped Cucina Asellina at the plush celeb haunt ME London hotel exactly two years after the first visit. Although when I say we, I mean my sister and I, Ade was coming with fresh eyes.

I think his eyes nearly popped out of his head when he saw the stunning front of house girl, I was quickly reduced to feeling like a total scruf bag. My comeuppance for ogling the chef at the Palomar perhaps. The room is still beautiful but slightly less informal, I don’t know how I hadn’t noticed the oversized black and copper lights that hang from the ceiling before...

  1. Friday night was our big theatre night out and we popped to Cucina Asellina for dinner first. The Italian restaurant in the ME hotel is one of our favourite places where we know we'll have really good food and a great time. Eating Italian seemed rather appropriate for this night of travel memories, having just come back from Rome plus we've also visited the restaurant's sister venue in New York. My choice of a rossini or prosecco with strawberry puree and Mr S's sparkling sangria even reminded me of the brunch that we'd enjoyed in New York...
