Cote Brasserie Hampstead is a well presented brasserie-inspired restaurant sitting close to Hampstead Heath. From the outside the restaurant is polished and impressive, a dark-bricked townhouse sits next to a glass extension, perfect for dining during the summer months as well as during winter for a cosy meal. The restaurant is close to both Hampstead Heath and the station, making it a perfect all day spot for a preparatory breakfast before some time in nature or a rejuvenating evening meal afterward. Although you’re unlikely to be bowled over by the food, this French eatery has a feel of quality and a retention of some soul.
The all day-menu offers a range of breakfast and brunch choices from lighter things like croissants and granola to more substantial options like eggs any style, croque madames and a French breakfast (the French answer to the full English including boudin noir), although you might be glad to note that you can get the English equivalent as well. The main menu has some classic French dishes on it, think boeuf bourguignon and moules frites as well as some more innovative dishes like confit pork belly - all of which are deliciously comforting. A grill section contains options for steaks and burgers that can be paired with a healthy choice of sauces and sides.
The drinks list is broad and well priced, you can get a bottle or two of wine without feeling emotionally hurt as you drink it and also offers beers, spirits and soft drinks. Where Cote Brasserie is perhaps best though is how accommodating the menu is, dedicated vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free menus sit alongside a children’s menu and an affordable prix fixe offering. Cote Brasserie is a simple but comforting place to go with friends or family, especially if you’re craving a bit of French charm.

Just a little uninspiring and tired

There was a very warm welcome from the manageress(?) who explained there might be some delays as they were short of kitchen staff. However, the food arrived promptly and was very well presented, and the waiter ( Florenc) was attentive but not intrusive. The only disappointment was the desserts - the pavlova was served in a soup dish and looked like a school dinner! The apricot tart had tough pastry.
The food was really excellent. I had steak frites and my friend the poulet Breton which were both beautifully cooked and very well presented. The service was prompt and efficient without being intrusive and they were very welcoming on arrival.
The special Pamplemousse Spritz cocktail was lovely and refreshing.
