Square Meal Review of Copa de Cava ?

Owner Richard Bigg is on a mission to re-educate Brits whose view of Cava has been tainted by the stuff peddled in tourist-trap bodegas. He’s a persuasive ambassador, thanks to his winning 30-strong selection from the cream of Catalonian fizz. Enjoy sterling stuff from high-profile players such as Cordoníu, which are kept in pristine condition in the cellars of this chic, sangria-toned basement. Taster flights provide an introduction to less instantly familiar names such as Raimat, Raventós and Gramona, whose Brut Nature 2008 would wipe the floor with most of its rivals in terms of taste, complexity and value. Cava-based cocktails include Diamanté (a French 75 with a Spanish accent), while hand-carved jamón, chorizo and seafood are perfectly matched.

  1. I like a glass of fizz as much as the next person. But I’ll be the first to admit I know little about the intricacies and variations of wines - oenology (yes, I had to look that up) isn’t quite my bag. Couple this with a deep-set appreciation for a plate (or nine) of quality tapas, and the opportunity to attend a cava tasting evening with complimentary Spanish bites reads as a perfect way to spend an evening.

Hot & Chilli :: Copa de Cava

Sometime ago I was invited to a networking event at Copa de Cava. It was a nice, ample bricked vaulted underground venue situated in between St Pauls and Blackfriars. I really liked the venue and thought I would love to go back and try it out. Together with my Brazilian PR friends Fabio and Gizane we went back to Copa de Cavas for a reunion and a good chinwag. We were greeted by Rocio, our friendly, sweet and well mannered waitress for the evening. Rocio suggested the dishes and we choose to have the two flights of cava.

We had two different flights of cavas, three 75ml glasses of each cava to go with an...
