Square Meal Review of Cinnamon Kitchen ?

Housed in a former spice warehouse, this assured modern Indian restaurant brings history full circle. Subtle clubland beats provide the soundtrack in the dining room, where a mixture of industrial design features and more ornate hints of India create a chic, contemporary space. From the assured kitchen, revel in unexpected flavour combinations such as pressed watermelon, coriander and quinoa salad alongside vibrant tandoori chicken, or stuffed marrow with lentil, raisin and fenugreek sauce. Concessions to western tastes are evident in the subdued heat of most dishes (a lack of spice indicators on the menu says it all), so chilli-lovers should make themselves known to the accommodating, smiley staff. Desserts, including juicy and fragrant poached pear, perfectly offset the earthier flavours that precede them. Vivek Singh’s City player is a breezy, stylish experience, with the bonus of reasonable prices – especially for the express lunch menu, which admirably suits the suited neighbourhood.

Her Favourite Food :: Cinnamon Kitchen

Where: Liverpool StreetCuisine: Indian/FusionSwank Levels: 5/5I don’t think I’ve been to a swankier looking restaurant than Cinnamon Kitchen in Liverpool Street. It’s location is jaw dropping; aptly hidden away in a corner of a former warehouse of the East India Company which covers Devonshire Square, this covered outside space is stunning, especially at night. Shops, restaurants, bars, water features, Art Deco style benches and even a foosball table can be found lining this beautifully lit up square. This all means that about people can linger here late into the night because it is covered and always drier and...

Wrap Your Lips Around This :: The Cinnamon Club

The Cinnamon Club is housed in the Old Westminster Library. This Victorian grade II listed building has all the beauty and pomp of the area, being close to Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament. After a tempered renovation, the dining area retains original parquet floor and wooden panelling, as well as a number of books lining the walls of the mezzanine. This, however, does not create the best ambience in which to dine. Dulled wood against an expanse of white walls feels stark, and creates an uncomfortably austere environment...

Vivek Singh

Rather than follow his father into engineering, Bengal-born Vivek Singh chose a career in the kitchen, acquiring his classical training at five-star hotels including New Delhi’s Oberoi. In 2001, he brought his talents to London, where he opened The Cinnamon Club in Westminster with Iqbal Wahhab. Having established this clubby establishment as one of London’s finest Indian restaurants, he opened City outlet Cinnamon Kitchen followed by smart-casual sibling Cinnamon Soho in 2012.
