Inspired by the film Forrest Gump, this jazzy seafood chain is a staple in the USA and now it's arrived in London’s Trocadero – its first appearance this side of the Atlantic. Launched in 1996, Bubba Gump now has more than 40 locations spread across the North America, Japan and South-East Asia, but one formula fits all – family-style eateries specialising in shrimp dishes and other seafood classics, plus a big dollop of Southern and Cajun cuisine (both Forrest and his buddie ‘Bubba’ Blue were from Alabama). Typical stateside favourites include popcorn shrimps, seafood hush-pups, ‘dumb luck’ coconut shrimp with Cajun marmalade and meaty plates of jambalaya, Dixie-style back ribs and Southern-fried chicken. If you’ve seen the film Forrest Gump, then you’d have heard of the restaurant Bubba Gump – the restaurant that serves all sorts of Southern American comfort food with shrimps (i.e. prawns) being it’s specialty.Located on the edge of London Chinatown between Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus station in the Trocadero building, it’s in a pretty prime location for London locals and tourists. We got there at 7 pm on a Tuesday night and it was still relatively quiet. When you get through the shop selling all the Bubba Gump souvenirs, you go up the stairs to the restaurant.
