Following a refurb, the upstairs wing that accommodates Village East’s slouchy lounge bar has been remodelled to maximise its possibilities. Also new is an extensive list of interesting cocktails
for Bermondsey boho boozers, with good calls including barrel-aged Martinez, King Crimson (La Penca mezcal and salted beetroot syrup made into a sour), Malabar punch (Appleton XV rum, tamarind and
cardamom syrup with pomegranate and lime), and Quince E Jones – the name gives a clue to the flavours used in this Prosecco sparkler. By contrast, the medicinally themed herbalist (Tanqueray gin,
Kümmel, celery and lemon) is very much an acquired taste. On safer ground, order London craft beers or pick from two dozen wines by the glass to go with promising snacks such as cod brandade,
potted duck with kumquat marmalade or whipped feta with grilled cucumber.
