Of the many Vietnamese eateries on Shoreditch’s Kingsland Road, Viet Grill remains the one to beat. ‘It’s permanently packed with Shoreditch locals’, even at lunchtime when its competitors lie
forlorn & empty. Some credit for this goes to the venue’s good but ‘not aggressively trendy’ looks (bold wallpaper, dark wood & ‘somewhat annoying’ clattery surfaces, ‘unconducive to a
lingering meal’), but most goes to the food. The placemat menu divided into ‘small eats’, ‘sublime greens’, ‘street dishes’ & so on, has simplified ordering, & the original English-language
monikers scream ‘eat me’. ‘Sitting duck curry’, ‘piggy grilled aubergine’ & ‘sizzling seafood’ certainly grab your attention. Come in for ‘a beer & a bowl of pho’ or take the waiter’s tips
for a proper feast. It’s all very user-friendly, but there’s a lingering question mark: is the kitchen ‘holding back on the spice factor to accommodate Brits’?
Anyway, so I've been trying to eat clean(er), you know to get that ass. But, that doesn't mean that all I'm going eat are steamed carrots and broccoli. It just means that I will order ONE deep-fried side dish, as opposed to TWO.Discipline - discipline is the thing! So, I used to lunch at Viet Eat a lot when I used to work near Holborn.Recently, I decided to reignite that old love affair...

Kingsland Road is home to a cluster of Vietnamese restaurants and after an introduction to Vietnamese food from Miss Chu's Tuckshop, we decided that Vietnamese food would hit the spot. Viet Grill was the first restaurant we came across and lured in by its colourful banana leaf wall murals, we ducked in and out of the heat. While we were contemplating the rather extensive menu (so many delicious sounding choices), we decided on our drinks, or rather, drink. Instead of a bottle of wine or a few bottles of beer each, we decided to order the Vietnamese Party Punch to share. With Appleton VX, Havana 3 & 7, Barcadi,...

Viet Grill is located on Kingsland Road which is more commonly known as the ‘Pho Mile’ and the epicentre for Vietnamese food in London. The interior of Viet Grill was casual and quiet for a weekday lunchtime. The restaurant was however, laid out well with plenty of space for diners on busy evening. The lunch menu is extensive with many different express menus. It took us awhile to decide what we wanted as there were many dishes with interesting flavour combinations.I opted for the ‘Rice Lunch’ which consisted of a main course, soup of the day, rice and side salad. We also decided to order some spring...

I’ve made two recent visits to Viet Grill it’s always been a favourite of mine. The service is almost always surly but on my most recent visit we scored a fantastic waiter, he was patient, always smiling and he even told us we should order more food, I love it when a waiter suggests this as i’m a greedy son of a bitch.Although we had a good waiter I feel Viet Grill is lately resting on its laurels, sure the food is still better than most places on Kingsland Road but the servings have shrunk and prices seem to have gone up...
