Square Meal Review of Vicino ?

An accomplished neighbourhood favourite, Vicino combines old-time charm with the look & feel of a modern trattoria. Inside, black-&-white portraits of spaghetti-loving diners rub shoulders with film memorabilia, while white tablecloths & sympathetic lighting give the place a welcoming vibe. Sit in the airy conservatory at the front if you can, & enjoy a menu that ranges from beef carpaccio & penne carbonara to more sophisticated offerings such as veal & ricotta ravioli or lobster, pumpkin & thyme risotto. For ‘dolci’, treat yourself to a classic tiramisu or pannacotta. The wide-ranging, patriotic wine list offers a few choice tipples by the half-bottle, as well as a clutch of more exclusive bins. Vicino is a ‘regular family haunt at weekends’, but expect hearty Italian hospitality whenever you drop in.

londonfoodaholic :: REVIEW: Vicino, New King

So I'm currently on a mission to discover London's (south-west) best Italian restaurant. I'm searching down back streets, every restaurant booking site going and every new opening newsletter i get. It doesn't have to be new, fancy, Michelin starred or old fashioned - none of that matters, it just needs to be truly delicious. The closest I've come to such deliciousness is Divo in Putney, good honest Italian food at amazing prices. Part of my Italian culinary journey included Vicino in Parsons Green, which i visited last week.

A seemingly unheard of restaurant (except for its locals) serving classic Italian dishes rooted in history, all served in a relaxed, informal trattoria style dining room. The staff here, for an Italian restaurant were excellent. Attentive, friendly and couldn't do enough for you. It's one thing that doesn't normally come naturally to a lot of Italian restaurant owners here in the UK. If you really want to know what I'm talking about, go to La Pizzeria in Chelsea Farmers Market - they do an excellent job of showcasing the rudest and laziest service i have ever experienced. The staff here at Vicino could teach them a thing or two.
