Named after a beach in southern France, Truc Vert’s laid-back, café vibe is a relaxed anomaly in Grosvenor Square’s formal orbit, but don’t imagine it stretches to sunbeds & surfing bums.
Instead expect Gallic rusticity, rickety schoolroom furniture, racks of wine, shelves of provisions & masses of greenery, indoors & out. Lunch is custom-built for grab-a-bite shoppers &
office workers, with daily quiches (smoked salmon with broccoli, spring onion & feta) & an array of jazzed-up salads (a combo of steamed cauliflower, new potatoes, carrot & olive salsa,
say). Come twilight, tables are clothed & the lights go down as the kitchen moves into bistro mode for the likes of duck confit with red cabbage & roasted onions. Wine is honestly priced,
making those alfresco tables eminently attractive for a drink or two.
We paid another visit to Truc Vert (follow link for more info) last night. It was as good as it’s always been.The marché area seems to have been cut back to make room for more tables (sensible idea, or perhaps it’s just because it’s winter so there’s no outdoor dining...
