The only pub in the land with a county border running right through its bar, The White Post stands on the spot where Somerset meets Dorset. Set amid gorgeous countryside with lovely views from its
garden (watch out for the chickens), it’s now home to chef Brett Sutton (ex-The Eastbury Hotel, Sherborne) and his family. Local and home-grown produce
mean a lot here, and the food offers a mix of zesty modern ideas underpinned by sound pub classics: go for hake with ‘coastal foraging’, preserved lemon gel and smoked oyster cream, followed by
duck breast with gizzards, charred broccoli stalks and fondant potato – or take the traditional route by ordering local sausages and mustard mash, a pulled pork muffin or rib-eye steak and chips
with mushroom ketchup. Good local ales and ciders, plus a decent wine list too.
