Based on the gourmet fish & chip shops of Australia, The Sea Cow displays the day’s catch at a wet-fish counter so you can select your meal before it’s cooked. Most diners stick to battered cod
& chips, but the adventurous might be tempted by red snapper, whole gilthead bream or grilled sardines. A beach-shack feel is evoked by shared wooden bench tables, life rings, & simple
watercolours from local artists. It’s a shame the staff aren’t always clued up about The Sea Cow’s sourcing policies (fish come from well-managed, sustainable stocks), & sometimes complaints
aren’t dealt with adequately. Otherwise, this is a pretty good all-day refuelling stop bolstered by an inexpensive, concise yet interesting wine list. Regular ‘kids eat free’ deals at weekends
attract local families.
