‘We brew beer to drink and what we have left we sell’, say the owners of Oxfordshire’s White Horse Brewery – a motto that seems suitably apt for their first pub in the city. The Royal Blenheim has
quickly become a destination for real ale buffs, with four pumps reserved for White Horse brews (Wayland Smithy, Village Idiot etc) and another six guest beers in constant rotation, ably supported
by some bottled Belgian efforts and a concessionary wine or two. The food is as positively pubby as the bar’s plastic, burgundy banquettes, with chilli con carne, sausage and mash, jacket potatoes
and plenty of sandwiches as mainstays, plus an unusually generous offer for veggies. Darts, pub quizzes and American sports provide the in-house entertainment.
