Tucked away in the rolling hills of the Ribble Valley, Backridge Farm is now a ‘retail destination’, but if your heart sinks at the thought of pet beds and scented candles, don’t despair. At the
back of the premises is The Plate – a spacious, open-plan café/bistro converted from a working barn with exposed stone walls and oak beams much in evidence. Come at lunchtime and you might find
confit chicken with a pepper and chilli spring roll, seared tuna with warm potato salad, risotto, quiche, or a burger made from 21-day aged Lancashire beef. Doorstep sandwiches arrive on good bread
with chunky chips, and the cracking cheeseboard consists of four local names with homemade fruit loaf and chutney. Breakfast, Saturday suppers (with a late licence) and extended Sunday lunches
flesh out the offering.
