Like Heston Blumenthal in Bray, Simon Rogan is taking a firm grip on his adopted village and its local eateries. With Michelin-starred L’Enclume
and Rogan & Company already pulling in the crowds (not to mention a cookery school/development kitchen and a working farm nearby), he
is planning to take over The Pig & Whistle – one of Cartmel’s stone-built village pubs. Following a gentle refurbishment, the place will re-open with artisan ales on draught and a
plain-speaking menu inspired by seasonal Cumbrian produce – although some extra L’Enclume flair is expected. The pub is also blessed with a large south-facing garden overlooking the Cartmel valley
and many of Cumbria’s peaks – perfect for locals, visiting foodies and Rogan’s staff wanting to spend some of their hard-earned cash.
