No round-up of the Bath food scene would be complete without mention of the justly well-renowned Hole in the Wall. A clear local favourite, there was an almost audible sigh from disappointed
foodies when it closed for a refit last year. Now featuring an even better atmosphere, it's back on form, serving the same popular brasserie-style menu of simply treated fish and meats. Expect
pan-fried calves’ liver with polenta & pancetta or scallops with rocket salad, bacon & pesto. The succulent rib-eye steak can reasonably be applauded as the best in town -- especially if
you opt for a thick and juicy Guinness gravy.
