With the Fat Duck & the Hinds Head already under his wing, Heston Blumenthal has shored up his position as the baron of Bray by taking over the nearby Crown. This 16th-century boozer has kept
its local feel, low beams, open fires & vine-draped alfresco courtyard, but the food has been given some trademark, HB-style British tweaking. Expect a gutsy run through the likes of
London-cure smoked salmon with capers, parsley & rye bread, char-grilled Angus sirloin with marrow bone sauce, suet-crusted steak & ale pie or lemon sole with potted shrimps, cucumber &
dill. You can also get ploughman’s & sarnies at lunchtime, while desserts could take in anything from sticky toffee pudding to banana Eton mess with lime & hazelnuts. To drink, there’s a
regularly changing roster of real ales plus a snappy list of well-chosen global wines.
