Established in 1729 and a 300-year-old fixture of the Broadway Market scene before closing in 2013, this local legend has re-launched under the aegis of new owner Tom Gibson (from Ruby’s in Dalston). Downstairs is a vintage boozer with enamelled mirrors, a long bar stretching the length of the room, local draught ales and a superior spirits selection. Upstairs is given over to Pearl’s – a cocktail bar in similar style, dispensing the likes of Pearly Queen (a lychee and lemongrass-infused take on Piña Colada). Dalston's White Rabbit is responsible for the food: expect a varied list from flat iron chicken or barbecued lamb to a kilo of mussels or octopus roll, rounded off with a knickerbocker glory. Traditional roasts rule on Sundays.
The Cat and Mutton recently opened under new management. That management being the people responsible for Rubyâs and also initiating a partnership with Licky Chops (the alterego of Lucky Chip), I was keen to get down there as soon as possible.As with so many things on my List, asap turned out to be longer than I wanted but last week I finally got there.
