There’s certainly a degree of sartorial elegance to this long-running Italian, with its grown-up demeanour, refined good taste and understated colour tones. It’s aiming for a Milanese vibe and
generally hits the mark. Service garners tentative nods of approval and the kitchen plays its part, while never attempting to reinvent the trattoria wheel in the face of a rather conservative,
expense-account crowd. Artichoke salad with almonds, rocket and lemon is simplicity itself, ahead of luxurious lobster linguine or money-saving prawn, potato and lime ravioli, while grilled baby
veal cutlet, leg of rabbit wrapped in Parma ham or lemon sole with capers and pistachios are stirring main courses. Desserts are a familiar parade, or you can choose some cheeses off the trolley.
Some say the food is ‘overpriced’, but set menus are ‘a bargain’.
I managed to squeeze in one more foodie splurge here in London by attending a mozzarella masterclass on Saturday the 4th of May at Mayfair Italian fine dining restaurant, Sartoria. The two private dining rooms at Sartoria are adjacent to and overlook the entire restaurant on a raised platform. The rooms are separated from each other by a wall and divided from the main restaurant by sliding oak and sand-blasted glass panels. Depending on your function specifications, the sliding doors may be left open to enjoy the spectacle of the restaurant, or closed for privacy.
