Launched in 1935 – at the same time that the Queen Mary was being built on the Clyde – stately Rogano is sailing towards its 80th birthday and still holds the title of Glasgow’s oldest surviving
restaurant. It’s a true city icon, beloved of powerbrokers and fashionable faces, who clearly like the ocean-going, art-deco design as much as they relish the seafood and Scottish accents on the
menu. Classics such as Cullen skink, lobster thermidor and grilled fillet of beef sit alongside more adventurous offerings including pan-seared scallops with coconut risotto and mango salsa, seared
foie gras burger with Stornoway black pudding or roast rabbit wrapped in Parma ham with brandy-soaked prunes. The downstairs café is about half the price of the restaurant, while the oyster bar is
good for Champagne cocktails and snacks. Afternoon tea is a real treat, likewise the wine list.
