Combine a celeb chef’s name with his new venture's Dublin postcode & you get RhodesD7. But the spiky-haired one won’t be making many appearances north of the Liffey; he’s consulting on the
project & has put acolyte Paul Hargreaves in charge of spreading the Gary Rhodes message to Ireland. The familiar retooled modern British classics have been given an Irish twist. There’s a rich
jellied Irish gammon with foie gras terrine, a cream of celery soup with melting Cashel Blue toasts, & a Rhodes signature dish of Irish cheddar cheese rarebit on smoked haddock with tomato
& chive salad. Desserts are typical Rhodes retro: Jaffa Cake pudding with orange custard, or peach melba bockerglory. Though located in the shiny new Capel Building, RhodesD7 harks back to the
heyday of the European brasserie, with its live piano music, art nouveau chandeliers & heavy mirrors. Large, too, incorporating a terrace, dining room, bar & mezzanine floor, this Dublin
newcomer has the bustling brasserie vibe spot on.
