It’s named after a former ecclesiastical resident, but the Reverend’s grungy exposed tiles and peeling wallpaper suggest a bargain-basement lady of ill-repute rather than a man of the cloth. From
the people behind the equally quirky Bourne & Hollingsworth nearby, this unreconstructed basement den looks like it was converted on a shoestring budget, and consequently feels more Dalston
than affluent Fitzrovia. The bar’s main focus is a baker’s dozen of well-executed cocktails served in retro cut-glass stemware: a Ribena-esque port-berry stinger tastes like pimped-up juice for
baby-boomers, although prune Manhattan and Redbourne royale (gin, lime, elderflower and Champagne) should have more universal appeal. Complimentary snacks and a piano for wannabe Michael Bublés are
further reasons to take communion at this fun Fitzrovia dive – and you can even hire out the Rev’s old bedroom for private gatherings.
