Hip Duck Soup just got hipper with the opening of this outpost at Hackney Central. As a thoroughly on-trend ‘coffee
shop and natural wine bar’, Rawduck is catnip to the area’s young professionals – a vision of cool cred done out in poured concrete, with music courtesy of vinyl discs. The place runs in café mode
until noon, serving Caravan coffee and foodie breakfasts such as ‘broken egg and sage toast’, before moving on to fantastic sandwiches including the signature ‘dirty bird’ with chilli roast
chicken, iceberg and jalapeño mayo. The full menu is inscribed on a big blackboard in arty handwriting, and there are some highly appealing wee platefuls on offer – from tender spatchcock quail
with aïoli or wonderful pressed anchovy toasts to soft, ripe San Marzano tomatoes with smoked mackerel. ‘Natural’, organic and biodynamic wines are available to drink in and takeaway.
