Huseyin Ozer’s Sofra chain goes about its business as a mass-market Turkish empire, while standalone Ozer offers something a shade more exclusive for the throngs around touristy Oxford Circus &
the BBC. Comprising a swish cocktail/lounge bar to the front, & a linen-&-lilies dining room beyond, it peddles Ozer’s favourite home-grown dishes, muddled up with fashionable ideas
borrowed from the capital’s dining scene. Traditionalists can begin with a truckload of mezze (tabbouleh, stuffed vine leaves, spicy sausage) before scoffing moussaka, stuffed peppers or kuzulu
begendi (lamb stew with smoked-aubergine caviar); others might prefer to take a break from Turkish cuisine altogether & go down the please-all international route – perhaps prawn tempura
followed by miso-marinated black cod or Scottish smoked salmon ahead of a 10oz rib-eye steak.
