Slap-bang in the middle of Canary Wharf, the new venue from gastropub wonder boys Tom and Ed Martin shows they can do high-rise haute as confidently as old-world polish. One Canada Square occupies
the lobby of the Wharf’s most recognisable building, but the David Collins-designed, low-lit bar, restaurant and mezzanine lounge banishes any corporate echoes with its art-deco vibe. Visitors are
handed iPads for browsing the cocktail list, alongside a menu that pampers and provokes interest. A delicate and decadent venison carpaccio with crisp artichokes, rosemary and truffle might precede
hug-in-a-bowl fish pie, while playful desserts might bring sticky date and honey pudding with cornflake sorbet on the side. Service is well drilled, the wine list roams the globe, and there are
sliders and posh dogs to be had at the bar.
One Canada Square is the original Canary Wharf tower, and still the tallest of the bunch there, with the winking light on top of the building visible for miles around. I have fond memories of working in the building, and always found the vast, marble-clad lobby to be impressive, rather than soulless, as some seem to find it. The fact that one can imagine the climactic “lobby scene” from the Matrix unfolding there merely enhances its impressiveness. Like it or not, it is vast anyway, and ETM Group (owners of leading London gastropubs such as the Gun) have managed to squeeze in a sizeable restaurant and bar into one corner. This is a somewhat TARDIS-like interior, over 3 floors, seemingly much larger on the inside than on the outside...

Hey! So what's the deal with brunch? I mean that if it's a combination of breakfast and lunch, how comes there's no lupper or no linnerJeannie (Seinfeld episode âThe Invitationsâ)The other day I got an invitation to try the brunch menu of One Canada Square. A lovely event ran by the ETM group where a nice group of food bloggers had the chance to tweet up their experience. The place is a refined, spacious, and traditional European restaurant and cocktail bar. The David Collins Studio designed the place, and the kitchen is in charge of chef Jamie Dobbin. Soft Shelf CrabWe got a nice selection of dishes and also cocktails, the highlight was definitely the soft shelf crab Benedict jalapeño, and on the cocktails side the Canary Mary, a great twist to the Bloody classic. Nice food, lovely space, and great cocktails. One Canada SquareT: 020 7242 9122European CuisineApprox Damage: £40ppArea: Canary WharfBorough: Tower HamletsTwitter: OneCanadaSquareView Larger Map
