Mr Chow is still rocking after 45 years, and this Knightsbridge veteran’s reputation for glitz, glamour and stylish Chinese food continues to lure jet setters, glitterati, supermodels and famous
faces galore. Curved glass windows filled with orchids and chain mail lead into a suitably glittering room with marble floors, turquoise tiles, handsome Joseph Hoffmann chairs and a witty trio of
gilded ducks hanging overhead. The decor hasn’t changed since day one, and neither has the menu: steamed dumplings, squab with lettuce, green prawns (in a spinach sauce), lobster done three ways
and a host of beef, lamb and pork dishes are the kitchen’s stock in trade. The cooking can seem bland by modern standards and it’s savagely expensive, but the chef makes amends by fashioning
hand-pulled Beijing noodles in front of an admiring crowd.
