Battersea Square & its environs must have been in dire need of a bar-deli-trattoria, judging from the response to Melanzana since it began trading a year or so ago. The venue, inhabiting the
premises of a former pub, is open from breakfast until late at night. Customers wander in enticed by excellent deli counters & the prospect of decent coffee, but soon find themselves planning
lunch & dinner here too. Grab a table in the slightly haphazard interior – if a seat isn’t available, you probably won’t have to wait long – & tuck into simple, good salads, fresh pastas
& top-class pizzas. A meal is a casual affair, but it’s inexpensive & good fun. What’s more, the quality of the cooking is matched by the cheerfulness of the staff.
Melanzana was one of those places that we weren’t sure whether to go into or not. This was only because we thought it may just be a take away deli and we wanted somewhere that we could sit in and have hot drinks.As soon as we entered, we were impressed with the colourful displays and the range of food in the deli. Little did we know that Melanzana was a restaurant as well! It’s a shame that some of the food was open on top of the counters. They had a range of breads, pastries, cold meats, olives and roasted vegetables...
