Square Meal Review of Marianne ?

Marianne Lumb’s CV lists stints at Le Gavroche and The River Café, plus a top-three appearance on MasterChef: The Professionals and a successful career cooking for the rich and famous. Her latest project is this bijou eatery – a lesson in understated elegance, complete with parquet flooring, green eggshell walls and just five smartly dressed tables. Matching the intimate supperclub mood is a pithy fixed-priced menu of seasonal, sophisticated dishes – witness a pitch-perfect starter of scallops on a zingy purée of Breton artichokes with pata negra ham. Elsewhere, char-grilled Wagyu beef fillet lets the meat do the talking and shepherd’s pie is given a contemporary spin, while desserts such as blackberry tarte Tatin finish things off nicely. Given that prices start at £48 for three courses, the food could be more daring, but with expert attention all the way, everyone feels cosseted.

Sam Stewart Etc :: Marianne Restaurant

I ooked Marianne’s two months ahead of our dinner and was really looking forward to it. The restaurant is tiny, only 14 seats and reservations are hard to come by (our waiter told me they get 50 requests/day). They also do only one seating at dinner to make sure their customers are not rushed and have the best possible experience. The restaurant is very small which makes it even more precious and special. They have two menu options – a 3 or 4 course menu (£55 or £65) or a full prix fix for £85. Since our dinner was at 8:15pm on a Friday and we didn’t feel like eating until midnight, we went with the three courses option...

Saying it straight :: Marianne. Middling.

When I was a baby lawyer, I entertained a fantasy that I would do law for about ten years, then open up a little neighbourhood restaurant. That was before I realised how much physical work, not to mention financial risk would be involved and I don’t do risk. Less a liberation from the law and more a life sentence to a stove.
But if I had opened a restaurant, it is highly likely that it would have been something like this. Small, but perfectly formed, Marianne is a beautiful little space. It’s the smallest fine dining restaurant in London, said the waiter. Like you’re in somebody’s very smart dining room and there is something about that intimacy which makes me feel slightly uneasy. I like a bit of distance...

vialaporte :: Marianne // Notting Hill // London

Having a top-quality restaurant arrive in your neighbourhood is always a wonderful surprise. The residents of Notting Hill seem to have stuck some serious luck with the opening of Marianne Lumb’s self-entitled restaurant – Marianne. While relaxed and friendly in person, chef has clearly built on her incredibility varied private and professional chef experience to put-in-place a kitchen (and team) that runs like clockwork.

While the cooking space is only the size of some restaurants’ coldstores, the dining room is equally small, seating a maximum of 14. The delicately lit, calm space is instantly relaxing, dotted with people enjoying exquisite food in a harmonious environment, with the Maître’D delivering an expert yet warm front-of-house service...
