From the team behind As You Like It in Jesmond, Liberty Brown has attributes aplenty and an open-minded approach to hospitality, which shows in everything from home-baked bread and a full-on organic menu for kids to comfy sofas and a family-friendly vibe. On the food front, the kitchen deals mainly in jazzed-up pizzas, burgers and grills, with international back-up from the likes of smoked chicken Caesar salad, seared scallops with chorizo, Mexican fajitas and penne with Toulouse sausage. To drink, organic beer is well worth a punt. Like its Newcastle sibling, Liberty Brown is also big on special events – in this case a pre-match Football Club when Sunderland FC are at home and ‘slow-roasted Sunday lunches with extra Yorkshire puddings’, as well as a late-night Supper Club (a cross between Ronnie Scott’s and the Café de Paris).
