Almost picture perfect, this restaurant is set in a beamed Tudor building by a pretty stretch of river, complete with visiting swans & a bridge. The dining room has recently been revamped – and
its adjoining terrace & gardens are still unbeatable for summer alfresco. Open fires add comfort in wintertime, while the welcome & service remain warm & friendly throughout the year.
Cooking is fairly eclectic, with British classics, like roast leg of lamb with mint gravy & bread & butter pudding, sitting proudly next to the likes of oriental duck confit with sweet
& sour cabbage & plum sauce. Set menus are excellent value & have made for a steady lunchtime trade – regulars get additional discounts – but, insists a reader, ‘everyone is made to
feel special’, while wines match with equally fair prices.
