The spirit of ‘cucina rustica’ is alive and well in Ottavio Bocca’s artisan foodie enterprise, which takes its name from Piedmont’s Langhe Hills. The ground floor of this remarkable venue is given
over to a provisions store, deli and café majoring on top-drawer artisan Italian produce ranging from homemade pasta to all manner of obscure regional cheeses and charcuterie. These fine
ingredients can be sampled downstairs (or in the courtyard) at lunchtime, and they are also used to telling effect in the dimly lit, atmospheric restaurant upstairs (Fri and Sat only): expect
classy plates of wild boar porchetta with white coco beans, calf’s liver with roasted onions, pancetta and sage or loin of red deer with bitter chocolate jus – plus white Alba truffles in season
and desserts such as hazelnut tart with chocolate mousse. The food is matched by a stellar list of directly imported Italian wines.
