It looks a bit dated from the outside and could easily be little more than a pre-theatre hangout given its proximity to the Usher Hall and Royal Lyceum Theatre, but the Jasmine is generally
reckoned to be one of Scotland’s top Chinese restaurants. Unusually slick service and an immaculate, red-walled interior set the tone for a regularly changing menu that is a cut above the
provincial norm. At lunchtime there’s a hugely popular £9.50 three-course menu, while the evening carte promises contemporary riffs such as crispy king prawns with mango and wasabi dressing,
braised cod and roast pork hotpot, stir-fried asparagus with Chinese preserved vegetables and fried buns, and other specialities you’ll struggle to find elsewhere in the city – even if many of the
dishes push up towards the £15 mark. Takeaways too.
