Iglu is a small, unassuming modern pub on a side street in Edinburgh’s New Town, with an equally modest restaurant upstairs. Its commitment to local, organic & seasonal produce, however, has
made it a venue of choice for people who want to eat eclectic dishes of sound provenance in easy-going surroundings. Dinner might offer rice-crusted tofu with pickled wild mushrooms, fried duck egg
& garlic aïoli, before hake fillet with saffron, artichoke, broad bean broth & herb salad. The wild boar burger & chips is always popular, while macerated Scottish berries layered with
almond shortbread & whisky-scented mascarpone is a typical summer dessert. The two-course lunch/pre-theatre menu is good value, wines won’t break the bank, & Sunday brunch has bags of
flavour (homemade baked beans with red pepper & smoked paprika on toast, say). If restaurant is full, you can always eat in the bar.
