Square Meal Review of Hawksmoor Seven Dials ?

‘Damn good’; ‘great from beginning to end’; ‘the best steaks in London’: just some of the readers’ plaudits showered on this Seven Dials branch of the beefy Hawksmoor chain. The former Watney Combe brewery is now ‘a meat lovers’ paradise’ – a brick-lined, barrel-vaulted basement dining room thoughtfully renovated with reclaimed fittings and vintage touches. It’s a fine setting for a menu of glorious 35-day aged steaks from The Ginger Pig: arrive early to guarantee your pick of the popular cuts chalked up by weight on blackboards. Hearty sides such as triple-cooked chips and roast mushrooms are ‘a superb foil’ to the beef, while other standouts range from garlicky roast scallops in white port to the signature salted-caramel Rolos. Serious cocktails and carefully sourced wines are further pluses. Clued-up staff show a genuine passion for service, which is regularly praised to the skies – no wonder fans insist Hawksmoor is ‘hard to fault’.

Wine List Of The Year

Boasting a user-friendly A5 size and clear layout, Hawksmoor’s list ticks a number of boxes, in managing to be both unfussy and intermittently informative, particularly when explaining its ‘Current Favourites’. Question marks were raised about the definition of what exactly ‘Reserve Whites/Reds’ might mean, but on the whole this is an easy list to follow.

Wrap Your Lips Around This :: Hawksmoor Seven Dials

Hawksmoor is a British steakhouse serving well-sourced beef and we-mean-business cocktails. Although a simple proposition, the difficulty in securing a booking is enough to see how popular the theme is. It is in this wisdom that there are now four branches across London, the Hawksmoor Seven Dials restaurant located in Covent Garden.

The dearest items on the menu are the sharing steaks, priced at £7.50-£13 per 100g depending on the cut. The size of the cuts varies from a manageable 600g portion, to a freakish 1000g. A quick mental arithmetic is all it takes to see that prices can escalate and quickly...

  1. What is on offer: Some of the best steaks and burgers in town. The Seven Dials branch has a different burger each month (aside from the regular burger). I’ve tried many of them and have not once been disappointed. I can’t wait for my next visit (having visions of steaks and burgers as I’m writing)...

sexdrugsandbaconrolls :: Hawksmoor – Seven Dials

In this unassuming side street of Covent Garden is a black wrought iron door that once pushed leads on to one of the best steak houses (arguably) in London. The Hawksmoor is one of four steak restaurants (Air Street recently opened), which are all located in London.

As we pushed open the door we were welcomed into a dark reception area, where we gave our names and coats. Our bags and coats were stored in huge wardrobes that looked as though they came from Narnia...

laymytable :: Hawksmoor – Seven Dials

This experience was like the feeling you get when you’ve been anticipating a holiday, a much needed one, for a very, very long time. You could never quite get enough time off work, you didn’t have the money or you didn’t know who to go with and just when you’ve almost given up…you’re packing your bags and on your way to the holiday destination that dreams are made of. This is how I felt about dining at Hawksmoor. High expectations yes, but rightly so, the restaurant has been dubbed ‘the best steak in London’ it has been hailed as the new breed of modern meets old school, a steak house to trump all steak houses and...

London - Girl About Town :: Hawksmoor Seven Dials

It's not every day I get to try a top-twenty UK restaurant (eighteenth according to last year's National Restaurant Awards) but hooray for birthdays, as on mine I got treated to dinner at Hawksmoor Seven Dials - happy days!http://thehawksmoor.com/If you're eating at the Hawksmoor, you're eating steak. I had therefore thought my customary faffing around over the menu and angsting over meal envy wouldn't be an issue, having forgotten about their legendary cocktail list. Reminiscent of a time when cocktails were considered practically medicinal rather than served in fish bowls with umbrellas and sparklers, the list is...

  1. We’ve frequented Hawksmoor Sevendails for years now, but since last year or so it’s become one of my destination of choice for top primo burgers. The nice touch at Hawksmoor Sevendails is that in addition to their legendary Hawksmoor burger they always have the Kimchi burger and the Burger of the month available...

  1. Among London steak aficionados Hawksmoor is known as one, if not the, best steakhouse(s) in town. Instead of pandering to my steak craving I decided to indulge in some burgers and hotdogs. The interior of Hawksmoor Seven Dials is that of a dark-wood US steakhouse. I personally like it a lot and the ambiance in the place is very nice as well. Apart from a formal dining area they also have a bar area where I sat this time (I prefer sitting behind the bar as I find it provides for better ambiance)...

  1. Hawksmoor is one of those restaurants you never hear or read bad things about, with high remarks from many bloggers and diners all over London it’s no wonder it’s always been at the top of my list.

I finally managed to drag the OH on a cold winters day down to Hawksmoor in Seven Dials to see what all the fuss is about.

The interior of the restaurant is oozing with British decadence and decorated with leather seating and wooden panels. Not particularly my style, but fits perfectly for the atmosphere and cuisine of Hawksmoor...
