Some say that Gelupo spoons out the finest gelati in London, & we’re not arguing. Mostly milk, with pure, natural flavour added – Sicilian pistachios, hazelnuts from Piedmont, intense Alphonso
mango – its chilly manna is churned fresh daily, & served from an idyllic Italian deli/shop opposite the mamma-ship, Bocca di Lupo, over the road. Meanwhile, the goods displayed at the rear
provide fantastic present-buying possibilities for Soho foodies: Pantelleria capers, homemade cantucci, panforte &, effectively, the Bocca wine list without the restaurant mark-ups. There are
also light lunchtime snacks to eat in (perch at a wee table or at the counter), plus takeaway sandwiches of salami with squaquerone cheese, caponata with salad, or buffalo mozzarella – not
forgetting ace espresso, sourdough ciambella doughnuts, & torta caprese.
I suspected I would like Gelupo cause I had tried their ice cream for dessert when we went to Bocca di Lupo (here’s my post on that one). What I had at Bocca di Lupo was so yummy that I really wanted to try more flavours. So, on an appropriately rainy day (if we let a bit of rain stop us we’d never do anything in London) I went to Gelupo with a mate.It is a lovely space, it really has a sense of the Greek summer… come to think of it, it’s probably the Italian summer but hey ho.Unperturbed by the fact that my shoes were soaking wet (I got a high fever the next day, it’s a really instructive story)...

After chatting with the friendly girl behind the counter, I settled on a small cup of Bonnet gelato as the perfect post-meal treat. While this was not the most visually appealing ice-cream (as my boyfriend charmingly pointed out!) it was beautifully smooth, and boasted an incredible depth of flavour - a complex, multi-layered blend of coffee, chocolate, caramel, rum, amaretti biscuit and vanilla. Delicious. And on the Gelupo website they attribute the amped up flavours of their gelato to a lower-than-average fat content...which means it's healthier than usual too!...

We made our way to Gelupo, a small gelati parlour hidden down one of Soho’s many back-streets. Upon reflection we could have just stayed at Pizza Pilgrims as they serve Gelupo ice cream as part of their dessert menu but it was nice to walk off all that dough and purchasing a scoop to take away meant we saved a few pennies towards our upcoming trip to Rio.This was my second visit to Gelupo which is possibly the most popular gelati parlour among London foodies, especially those I follow on Twitter...

We’ve been to Gelupo many times and we’ve always left very satisfied customers. In our opinion Gelupo has the best ice creams on offer in London and the other desserts on display are certainly worth trying as well. This time we decided to do some Christmas dessert shopping at Gelupo. To be fair we could have ordered the produce from their internet website as well (Gelupo offer many of their products via their internet website), but visiting the gelateria in person allows you try out the many flavours they have on offer (and they change quite often)...
