‘Blade Runner animé’ is one fan’s description of Fluid – a compact Japanese-style groover that looks like a surreal level from a retro computer game. Windows and walls emblazoned with koi
carp and cartoon heroes set the mood, while the upstairs bar is well-stocked with ‘Japanese exclusives’ and some terrific cocktails – the Midori sour and lychee-infused mortal kombat come highly
recommended. Saké, ginseng beer and bottles of Asahi (from the vending machine) reinforce Fluid’s oriental cred, and you can also nibble on some very respectable (and very reasonably priced)
Japanese food before getting down to some shape throwing – readers rave about the ozone-fresh nigiri sushi and chicken katsu curry, as well as the bento boxes (£10). Meanwhile, DJs pump out funk,
disco and soul in a dark, loungey basement club that comes into its own for late-night raves. ‘A great night out.’
