Set in 50 acres of parkland close to the M25, this monumental, Grade I-listed manor house is now a premier-league country-house getaway with heritage trappings but a modern culinary outlook. What
was the vaulted Oak Room has been re-branded as The Estate Grill – a more casual set-up highlighting produce grown or reared in Great Fosters’ grounds, gardens and pastures. The seasons rule on a
menu that might run from Josper-smoked mackerel with apple and scorched leeks or salt-baked beetroot with goats’ curd and honeycomb to Longhorn steak burgers, grilled pork cutlets or whole baked
sea bass with fennel and star anise. Home-baked breads, fresh veg and puds such as egg custard tart with strawberries are plus points. The restaurant is also showcasing the work of new and
established British artists with a series of dedicated exhibitions.
