This friendly neighbourhood Italian has been giving Chelsea locals their pasta fix for years, though the arrival of a new head chef has recently shaken up its menu. Elistano favourites such as
perfectly al dente linguine vongole with juicy clams remain, but you'll also find daily specials ranging from simply grilled sardines to deep-fried courgette flowers stuffed with oozing mozzarella.
To start, classic melanzane parmigiana has been meltingly textured, ahead of garlicky king prawns bursting out of their shells in a white wine and chilli sauce. Flavours are fresh and authentic,
though our tiramisu would have benefited from more booze; the short Italian wine list is also rather underpowered. That said, a regular crowd of yummy mummies and expats still find plenty to enjoy
here – with pavement seating for sunny days an added bonus.

My mum is a huge fan of Italian cuisine, so it was only natural that she accompanied me when I was invited to try the new menu...
