Fate smiles on this Chinese/Indian crossover restaurant. The convenient location helps – opposite the tube station, making Dalchini an easy meeting place on the way home – but mostly it’s the
consistent cooking & the relatively low prices that explain the success. Gently spiced Hakka cuisine (Chinese food as eaten in India) is the stock-in-trade: salt & pepper squid with a
little spice added; Manchurian chicken curry flavoured with soy. There seems to be a tendency to overcook vegetables as far as some Londoners are concerned, & those looking for a truly
authentic spice kick might be a touch disappointed. Ask for the temperature to be raised a little, however, & the sometimes-lackadaisical staff soon pick up their game & start to grace the
bright, spick & span little room with smiles.
