Square Meal Review of Cocoro ?

If bubbly Japanese bolthole Cocoro looks quiet from the street, be warned that the basement may be significantly more gregarious. Many regulars prefer its sedate, shoe-free tatami mats & pale wood to the bland contemporary scheme at ground level; nevertheless, everyone gets the same food & occasionally awkward service. To start, try fried tofu, chicken teriyaki salad with spicy soy or pork & vegetable-stuffed gyoza; otherwise opt for a bowl of highly rated ramen noodle soup or a single-course offering of sushi rice topped with tempura. At lunchtime, set menus proliferate, while dinner sees the appearance of some Euro/Asian crossovers in the guise of beef carpaccio with ponzu sauce or grilled Ibérico pork in miso. The drinks list includes plenty of saké, which is also the subject of regular tasting events.
