The residents of semi-bucolic Blackheath already have reason enough to be smug, but this all-day brasserie makes them the envy of their south-east London neighbours with its ‘lovely welcome’ and
‘consistently good service’. Boasting views of the heath from floor-to-ceiling windows, Chapters serves up a mix of time-honoured classics – Josper-grilled steaks, fish and chips, confit duck –
alongside more perky seasonal dishes such as Kent asparagus seared on the grill and partnered by a crispy poached egg. Despite the long menu, the cooking is sure-footed, with plenty of variety to
keep regulars happy. Kids do well here, their parents even more so: anyone for a ‘breakfast cocktail’? Brick walls, art-deco mirrors and bare tables keep the mood relaxed, while pitches on the
alfresco pavement space are perfect for anything from a lazy brunch to a sundowner.
