‘I love this bar’, admits one fan, ‘it’s decadent and almost timeless – evocative of an earlier era, yet contemporary in all respects’. Located in the bowels of The Savoy, beyond the gauche Thames
Foyer, the Beaufort is done out in shades of gold and black art-deco bling, like a set for a Ferrero Rocher commercial directed by Dolce & Gabbana, with a theatrical bar occupying the very
stage where big bands once encouraged bright young things to get ‘stomping at The Savoy’. Today’s entertainment consists of burlesque shows, while waitresses dressed in rather old-fashioned frocks
deliver pricey Champagnes, canapés and distinguished cocktails at top-end prices. You can also turn up for a decadently expensive afternoon tea in the Foyer, if you fancy shelling out more than £60
for dainty nibbles, classy teas and a glass of Ruinart Rosé bubbly.
One dedicated to
champagne lovers everywhere. A really impressive collection of Louis Roederer vintages and Cristal (including rosé) plus 27 bottles of pop available by the glass (including Nyetimber and five small
growers) and a tasty magnum selection. Not cheap, but not the rip-off prices you might expect. The list is beautifully (and classically) printed and laid out.
