There are vinous bargains to be had at 68 & Boston: the bistro-styled ground-floor bar recently launched by Eric Yu (of Jerusalem and Salvador & Amanda renown). Wines chosen by Yu’s partner, Martin Malley (Planet of The Grapes), are all sold at £20 – we’ve seen the same McLaren Vale Aussie Shiraz for 30% more elsewhere, although a thin Romanian Pinot Grigio was reminiscent of supermarket £10 dine-in deals. More interesting, perhaps, are cocktails, served by tuxedo-clad chaps upstairs in a charming (if slightly louche) rosewood bar that was formerly The Green Carnation. By all means, try various punches or the likes of Rose Tinted (gin, elderflower liqueur, Prosecco, and Solerno orange liqueur), but at around £11, we prefer the old-school likes of Loud Tempests (Lagavulin whisky, samphire-infused white port, Bénédictine and bitters), or Peace Offering (Olmeca Reposado Tequila, Tempranillo, vermouth and agave syrup). To eat, order toasties, charcuterie or cheeseboards.
