St Michael's Manor Hotel is an idyllic country house hotel set within a historic townhouse in St Albans, Hertfordshire with an ideal space for private dinners. The hotel is surrounded by five acres of private English country gardens and is even privy to its own lake. Here, guests of the hotel can enjoy the span of boutique bedrooms and whether you're visiting for the night or just an afternoon or evening, the in-house restaurant is a lovely place to catch up with friends or to celebrate a special occasion.

The restaurant itself is stunning; a glasshouse-style conservatory, it has huge windows which flood the room with natural light in the day, and on a summer's evening you can watch the sun go down between the trees. Parquet flooring and white tablecloths set the scene for a classic, timeless feel which works beautifully for private dining events - from wedding receptions to birthday parties.

St Michael's Manor Hotel's menu serves up seasonal British fare with a focus on ingredients sourced from across the UK. You can expect regularly changing menus which showcase the best of what's in season at the time, available as a la carte as well as menus for lunch, kids, Sundays and afternoon tea. The Sunday option will tend to stay the same, and comes as a two or three course menu that is modestly price and offers a selection of meats with all the trimmings. Opt for the slow cooked pork loin or go slightly off-piste with the grilled seabass, then follow with a hearty dessert or cheeseboard.

There's also a well-curated wine list supplying a variation of fine wines by the glass and bottle. From Champagne to Albarino, there’s plenty to choose from whether you’re looking to celebrate as a larger group or nurse a single glass over lunch.

This room is perfect for a more intimate gathering, whether this is for your next dining occasion or if you're looking to get your team to brainstorm together. This is the oldest room in the hotel with oak panelled walls, and an ornate, high stucco ceiling showing the date 1585, when the original house was built. The Oak lounge is on the ground floor with natural daylight and is located next to our reception, bar and lounge areas

The Orangery

140 seated capacity

he Restaurant-orangery is perfectly suited for large functions, seating a maximum of 140 guests, or 150 guests for an evening event with a buffet, dance floor and entertainment. Situated on the ground floor with plenty of natural daylight and direct access to our outside terrace area next to our lounge and bar. The latter are perfect for greeting guests or for pre-dinner drinks and canapés.

Funeral ReceptionJANUARY, 2024

I really can’t thank you, Ayana, and the whole St. Michael’s team enough, for organising and looking after us at last Thursday reception. I am so grateful for everything that was done to make the lunch reception after my Mother’s funeral the exact occasion we all wished for. My family were especially delighted, that everything was organised so well, we could step back and spend time with my family and friends, without any thoughts or worries. Please pass big, big thanks to Chef too. His food was wonderful, so plentiful, and was highly praised, a big hit, many people had seconds !! It was so difficult to judge catering for the changing numbers, but your guidance was right, Roberto, and I bow to your expertise! If our experience is anything to go by, you will be very successful in your relaunch of the Hotel, and we will definitely have no hesitation in recommending you. I’ve received so many positive comments. Everyone just loved St Michael’s Manor, and thought the venue, the Orangerie and, especially the lunch, were superb. I’ve shared just one of them below, from my Aunt : "You chose the perfect place for the reception, Mary. St. Michael’s Manor is a fabulous venue. The food was fantastic. They couldn’t do enough for everybody and made what could have been a very sad occasion into something that we will always remember. We all came away with big smiles on our faces."
