China Tang at The Dorchester Hotel is one of London's best-known Cantonese restaurants, combining authentic Chinese cooking and dim sum with opulent, lux interiors. As well as boasting a large dining room, the restaurant also has a collection of private dining rooms available to hire for large and small groups.
China Tang's iconic art deco interiors are inspired by pre-war Shanghai, and are smartly decorated with intricately-carved wooden wall separators, colourful patterned carpets, floral upholstered chairs, and neat white tablecloths on the tables.
The three private dining rooms are called Ping, Pang and Pong, and are available to hire individually or in conjunction with one another depending how large a dinner you're planning. The Pang and Pong rooms are almost identical - both feature oblong banqueting tables and have capacity for up to 18 diners. The Ping room is slightly larger, and can fit 18 guests around one large round table, or up to 22 around two smaller tables.
Groups of up to 40 can hire Ping and Pang together, or you can hire all three rooms together, providing enough space for 60 diners.
Meanwhile, China Tang's set menus are an easy way of ordering a wide spectrum of delicious Cantonese dishes. Kick things off with dim sum, followed by Cantonese roast meats, hot and sour soup, and dishes for the table such as steamed prawns with garlic, sweet and sour pork, and stir-fried beef in black pepper.
The China Tang bar is equally famous for mixing up a cracking list of bespoke cocktails, including the Plum Cobbler (plum liqueur, peppermint and eucalyptus cordial, violet, Hennessy XO, pandan syrup, fresh pear, citrus) and the Sea Spritz (Seatrus Gin Acqua Di Mare, homemade cedro soda). There's also an extensive wine list that includes a number of rare vintages.
