Wood Norton in Worcestershire will reopen at the end of this month, following a £4m restoration project that’s seen former broadcasting centre turn into a hotel. The 50-bedroom property will have a restaurant with private dining facilities for up to 20 guests and is located near Stratford-Upon-Avon on the edge of the Cotswolds. With a 250-capacity marquee site within its immaculate grounds, the venue looks set to be popular with brides as well as corporates. A second stage of redevelopments will add a spa and further leisure facilities.

Last week, De Vere Venues opened its latest property in the Midlands. Orchard House is a 202-bedroom eco hotel located within the grounds of the University of Nottingham. The state-of-the-art site has been designed to reduce carbon emissions by incorporating sustainable features such as a green roof and energy-efficient lighting, glazing and ventilation systems. Four meeting rooms have space for up to 20 delegates each and there’s also a 160-capacity restaurant and bar area. Other event spaces include a rooftop garden, which is reserved for those staying in executive suites, and a mezzanine level for receptions for up to 100 guests. For larger events, the nearby East Midlands Conference Centre holds up to 850 delegates across 21 rooms – all with free Wi-Fi.

Event UK Exhibtion Cancelled

UBM Live, the company that puts on the Event UK exhibition, has today announced that 2010’s exhibition was its last. Usually held at Birmingham’s NEC Arena at the time in September as the Square Meal Venues & Events exhibition, the show specialised in venues and events suppliers from outside of London. UBM has stated that as a result, it is planning to increase investment into its flagship show International Confex, which takes place at Earls Court between 1 and 3 March.

Recently purchased by the Royal Society, Chicheley Hall, just outside Milton Keynes, is set to reopen in 2010 following extensive refurbishment. Newly available for events, the Grade I-listed Georgian house is set in 75 acres of grounds and will include four meeting rooms for up to 25, as well as two lecture halls for up to 98 (one featuring tiered seating). 47 bedrooms will also be available for delegate use and the venue is now open for early-bird bookings.
