Where to watch the World Cup in London

(menu)

World Cup madness is fast approaching: where will you be when the nation gathers its collective breath in June and early July? Aside from the countless mid-range pubs that will undoubtedly be showing the footie action, the capital’s restaurants and gastropubs are getting in on the act, meaning there will be a top-class venue to suit fans of every nationality. Here are some of the choice venues from around London.

World Cup 2010 - more_england_fans.jpgAlbannach: Even though Scotland were a long way off qualifying for the tournament, World Cup matches will be shown on screens in the A-lounge of the Scottish-themed restaurant.

Anise: The Cinnamon Club’s sister bar will be showing all the England games plus the quarter-finals, semis and final. To mark the occasion, the Devonshire Square bar will serve specially created cocktails.

Big Chill House: The King's Cross bar will be featuring the stirring sounds of brass band the Heritage Horns, who will be playing a selecting of rousing songs, including the Rocky, Great Escape and Dambuster theme tunes, during England games.

The Big Easy: Cheer for a beer at the American-themed King’s Road diner. As well as offering patriotic red, white and blue margarita cocktails, the diner will give away free bottles of beer to cheering fans every time the USA score in the tournament.

.

Bincho Yakitori: The Soho Japanese will show all of Japan's World Cup matches in its bar area. For each goal Japan scores, guests will receive a complimentary glass of sake.

.

Le Bouchon Breton: Enjoy a pint of Kronembourg and a Croque Monsieur for just £7.95 and watch the action on a selection of screens.

.

Camino: The King's Cross Spanish restaurant is the place to watch favourites Spain play. The London School of Samba will be whipping up an atmosphere with a live band and chants while big screens inside and outdoors show all the country's games. Other focus will be on the matches of England, Italy, Germany and Brazil. Guests can reserve tables near the front of the restaurant for £80, which will also buy you a paella for four, 12 bottles of Amstel beer and table service throughout the match.

.

Caponata: The Sicilian restaurant in Camden will show all the games, as well as running special World Cup drinks offers.

.

The Cinnamon Club:  Not the first place you might expect to watch the tournament, but the downstairs bar will be showing all games on its projector screen. Two new football-themed cocktails will be available for £7 each, while a special grazing menu will also be available

Electric Brasserie: All games will be shown in the restaurant's bar. The European menu features a selection of sharing platters ideal for the footie.

The Langham: An indoor bar and lounge adjacent to its pop-up Terrace Garden will show sporting events, including the World Cup, on its plasma-screen TV.

The Orange: Two screens will show all the action in the bar at the Pimlico gastropub.

Renaissance Pubs: Popular south-west London gastropubs The Avalon and The Stonhouse will both be showing the action on plasma screens and projectors.

Plateau: Watch the World Cup on the Canary Wharf site's fourth-floor terrace as you tuck into a barbecue menu.

The Real Greek: The Mediterranean restaurant is offering a free shot of ouzo to customers who shout 'opa' every time Greece score.

Sketch: The restaurant will show the majority of the group stage games in its Glade room, and will show all games from the quarter-finals onwards in its Gallery restaurant should England qualify.

.

And if all those places sound a bit too distracting, check out the bespoke pop-up bar Fever Pitch on Fulham Broadway. With 13 screens spanning 360 degrees and covering every wall of the 400 person-capacity venue, you can sip some beer, chow down on a foie gras, apricots and chilli jam toastie and thoroughly immerse yourself in Englands campaign, all the way to the final - hopefully.

.

Or if you're craving an opportunity to escape the World Cup madness, the Terrace at the Sanderson is putting on Champagne dinners during the evenings when England are scheduled to play. Targeted at those looking to get away from the footie action, the only rule is that sport is not mentioned throughout the event. While Morgan M, in Highbury and Islington, is offering a specially designed five-course menu for £45 with wine, with the promise of no football.
